Rape accused kills self after stabbing wife as she refuses to stay with him

A 26-year-old man died by suicide in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur district after stabbing his wife and mother-in-law, police said on Friday. He was out on bail in a rape case filed against him by his wife.
Following the incident, the mother and daughter were rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
According to the police, the man, identified as Vishal Rajput, had been in a relationship with the 20-year-old woman, and the two got married earlier this year.
However, the woman’s mother was unhappy with the relationship and took her daughter back home. Later, the daughter filed a rape case against Vishal, after which he was arrested and sent to jail.
After being released on bail, Vishal went to the woman’s home to convince her to live with him and withdraw the rape complaint. However, the woman and her mother filed another complaint, accusing Vishal of threatening and pressuring them to settle the case, which led to his re-arrest.
Vishal went to the woman’s home again on Friday, October 18, after being released on bail in the second case. A heated argument ensued as the woman refused to live with him any longer.
As the argument escalated, Vishal attacked the woman with a knife. When her mother tried to intervene, he stabbed her as well, leaving both women with severe injuries to their stomach and back. After the attack, Vishal locked himself in their bathroom and died by stabbing himself.
Vishal’s family claimed that he was killed by the woman and her mother when he went there to speak to them.
“The girl willingly married Vishal but later ended the relationship under her mother’s pressure. False cases were filed against him by the woman under her mother’s influence,” one of Vishal’s relatives told the media.
Upon receiving an alert about the incident, the police arrived at the scene and sent Vishal’s body for a postmortem. An investigation has been launched into the matter.
“We have begun a probe into the case. Prima facie, it appears that the man, who was accused in a rape case, went to the woman’s home to speak to her, and the incident took place there. The police are investigating the matter,” said Jabalpur Police’s Additional Superintendent of Police Sonali Dubey.
